As I was working on the computer the other day Seth came up to me and started patting my tummy, and with a big grin on his face he asked me “Mommy, do you have a baby in your tummy?” I said no, but I explained that he and his brothers had been in my tummy before they were born and he said “Oh!” with a giggle and then exclaimed, “I was be’d on the other dark side!”. 🙂

Standing in front of my open window, “I smell something yummy! I smell a hike!”

Peter was driving us on the freeway the other day when a dually truck with a covered bed zoomed past us and Seth said “That truck is a car now!”.

This morning he was asking me how God made the world and I explained that God spoke all things into existance and he holds all things together by the word of His power, when he interrupted and asked  “Did God say we needed a storm to help us pick oranges?”

She’s been my neighbor for five years. We had the chance to move to this property because she put in a word for us when this house became vacant, and we desperately needed to move. Peter’s family had known her family for many years, but I was still pretty new to his circle of friends and didn’t know anyone very well. We were friends immediately, and our kids have become friends as they’ve been born and grown up together. Each other’s yards, houses, and hearts are havens to the other. I wish I could say we’ll be neighbors forever, but they are fortunate to be building a house down the road that should be completed by next year. And I am so very thankful that God has allowed us this wonderful experience of living next door to each other on this property.

For many months now she’s been struggling with her health as she was expecting her fourth baby. I had never seen anyone have such a hard time with a pregnancy, and yet her attitude and outlook were always faith borne and God~ward. Their fourth child was born on August 1 to an overjoyed family who welcomed him with such a celebration! He is a precious and amazing gift, and a miracle. I love you, my friend, and thank God for you!

Peter took the boys and a couple of their friends to an archery park where they could learn to shoot arrows safely and with good form. They all did very well and of course begged to go back next weekend!

Jerome, one week away from getting his cast removed… He insisted he could still ride! Tapo Canyon Park Jerome only needed a little help because of his cast. I’m told some people purposefully plaster their arms for shooting arrows. Good friends and neighbors! Collecting arrows at three whistles. Taking places on the line at two whistles. And shooting on one whistle. Right before it was time to go Seth decided he wanted a chance to shoot, too. Daddy helped him. And he actually made a pretty good shot! Thank you Peter for the fun times! Um, ok. So we went to a craft store on our way home and the boys found face paints. They got into them right away and had a blast drawing on each other… Then they decided they wanted to play in the pool which Jerome hasn’t been in for two weeks, and I was hoping it would help wash some of that stuff off. Nope, not hardly. And Peter wrapped Jerome’s cast. It was not wet from the pool, just sweat. They had a great day! And the face paint got more and more elaborate!

Peter called as the boys were just finishing their breakfast and asked me if I could get Jerome to the Orthopedic doctor in about 30 minutes. Sure! Sweet Jane had just moved home the night before and was available to come over and babysit the little boys. What a blessing for us to have her home after five years! Love you, Jane!

The dr. we were scheduled to see wasn’t on schedule, so another dr. took all the patients yesterday morning. He was really nice, but very busy. From looking at the x-rays and palpating Jerome’s arm for a minute he concluded the same diagnoses as Tim, a radial head fracture. And he prescribed a full arm cast for 2 1/2 weeks. Jerome chose red. 🙂 The nurse wrapped it like a pro and we walked out of there 40 minutes later with Jerome’s first cast. He’s been such a trooper! Poor guy was in tears a few hours later with the itching, so we scoured the house for all the scratchers we could find and he said that helped a little, but the best help was distraction. The boys listened to a new Patch the Pirate story Jerome got from Auntie Anna over and over today, it was perfect! Thanks Anna!

This afternoon after I had spent a while working at the computer trying to finish up the July wedding, I spent a couple hours in the kitchen making two chicken pot pies to take up to the Barlows this evening for dinner. Seth LOVES pies, and enjoys licking the flour off his fingers and eating all the scraps of pie dough that he can get. It’s really fun to have him in the kitchen. He thought the Crisco was cream. 🙂 When they were baked and cooled a bit we loaded up in the car (I’m having to strap three boys in and out since Jerome needs help now) and backed down the driveway to check in with the Jones’ for a minute before leaving. I was longer than “just a minute” and Seth and Jerome both got out of their seats and straps to come get me and when I got back to the car I discovered both pies with footprints in them! I can’t really blame him since Seth is only three and I shouldn’t have left him anyway, so I decided to laugh instead of cry. 🙂 The pies were both still edible since they were covered with towels, it just looked like I was bringing leftovers instead of two beautiful pies for dinner! Peter brought Gigi and we were all able to stay and eat together and enjoyed a lovely evening catching up with each other’s lives.

My heart is full of thanksgiving and praise! For God’s wonderful design and provision and protection, and for the family he has placed around us.

On the phone with Daddy telling him about his cast. I love how he’s never still when he’s on the phone. You can see that some of his friends have already signed his cast! And about the ring, he asked me “Did kings get casts when they got hurt?” :-) Yum! You’re welcome, precious boy!
