I realize I completely missed blogging about our fourth of July and a dear friend from out of town so I will put those pics up as soon as I can. I’ve also had two shoots this week and a wedding coming up this weekend.
This morning Ian and Seth were up at 7am (that’s early for our boys) and they stayed outside after waving goodbye to Daddy while I fixed their breakfast. Seth asked if it was daytime yet and if he could play. He runs over to the ladder and climbs up to the slide, his face and chest bathed in sunshine, and says “Mommy, the sun is rising to me! It’s not burning me up!”
The Lord’s mercies are new every morning!
Then this evening as we sat outside eating dinner with Noel and David, the sun is setting in the west and the moon is rising from the south east. As the sun turns a brilliant orange and blinks good night through the trees at us, Seth said “The sun is firing at me!”. And when he noticed the ever brighter moon shining behind the clouds he said “The moon is hiding!”.
Good night!
This past week held so many wonderful blessings for me. Laura spent most of her Thursday with us! Sienna is getting more and more used to the dog, the pool, and my rambunctious boys and felt so comfortable here that she fell asleep! Ian had a four hour nap that day, too, which was the first time he had such a long nap (he’s cutting three teeth), and Laura and I enjoyed a quiet, special visit. We had time to share our hearts and fellowship together…which is rare with four kiddos running around. Later when Daniel and Peter were having a geek party that evening, Laura came back and brought a yummy dessert and spent more time with us! Thank you so much, Sweetie!
Then Friday we had the first Movie on the Lawn for this summer. It was so fun the few times we did it last year that we couldn’t let the summer go by without another one. However, we couldn’t do it without the Altamiranos set up, so Peter grilled ribs and we had corn and green beans barely finished before people started filling up the yard. Fun times!
After church today Gilbert and Erica brought fresh seafood from the L.A. fish market and Peter grilled it in garlic butter, Noel and David brought yummy bread, limeade, and amazing coleslaw, and I picked up Gigi! Another amazing fellowship and feast.
Another family stopped by later for a photoshoot whom we hadn’t seen in a while. They added to the blessings of our day and filled our house and day to overflowing!
This morning I woke up to Seth’s sweet little voice informing me that Ian had pooped in his bed. Now, normally…never mind, there is no normal. Ian just moved from our room to the pack n’ play in the boy’s room this week, and he has also cut his first molar, which makes him prone to loose bowels, but the dirt he ate yesterday certainly didn’t help matters. Poor guy. So I actually get out of bed when Jerome comes in to inform me that Ian has definitely pooped in his bed. My default prayer every morning is “Thank you for this new day, Jesus, and thank you for going before me and making my way straight…” it seemed a little ironic to be praying as I walked into a smelly room and my baby is pointing and showing me his new accomplishment, but we dive into laundry and baths before breakfast and find that Jesus is faithful, mommy’s not grumpy. But we only had time for cold cereal this morning (a real treat!) because Zachary and Brennan played at our house for about four hours today!
Our landlord watered these wonderful fruit trees last night and Peter turned off the irrigation this morning on his way to work…and before I could get everyone ready for a day outside there were already two and a half pairs of lost shoes in the muddy mire, and five little pairs of muddy feet and hands! And of course I had to get in there too, to retrieve it all and I have to admit I wasn’t laughing yet. After that the day went pretty smoothly, everyone played so nicely and we all enjoyed being together, mud and all. When the cousins had gone home we had a quiet afternoon reading books, playing mancala (Jerome counted the scores and found the difference.), and before Daddy got home we made mud caves and castles and squishing our toes down into the gloopy, gloppy, glorious mud!
A couple funnies I heard from Seth today:
“Mommy, when it was dark, the dark made the grass wet!”
“The gravity is holding us all up!” – from a conversation with Zachary, who agreed with everything Seth said, sorry Donna!
